What and When

WICCON is a not-for-profit, English-speaking, two-day, single-track information security conference, taking place on the 31st of October and the 1st of November in The Netherlands. At WICCON, we want to recognize and showcase women’s success in the cybersecurity field. We want to inspire the rest of the community to pursue a career in security and demonstrate how women can also be successful subject matter experts. The hard stuff doesn’t scare us, and we’re ready to talk about what truly matters in the field.

WICCON is a conference with an all-women speaker line-up designed to highlight women’s achievements in the cybersecurity field.

All speakers get a complementary pass (and a +1) to the conference and an invite to special events.

What content do we like

Talks

We are a single-track conference that wants to demonstrate how women can also be successful subject matter experts in information security. The hard stuff doesn’t scare us, and we’re ready to talk about what truly matters in the field. Since we are a single-track conference, talk slots are limited, and we are therefore unlikely to feature several talks covering the same subject.

The speaker slots on our schedule are 30-60 minutes, including a Q&A.

Workshops

This year we want to broaden our horizon in types of content, except the regular talks we are also inviting proposals for workshops. Workshops are meant to be interactive sessions where our participants can get hands-on with information security and related activities. We are also broadening our horizon in terms of contributors, for the workshops we are open for presenters of all genders.

The workshop slots are flexible, but we are expecting a 60-120 minute duration.

What we need

To be considered for a speaker slot at WICCON, you need to submit via our CFP platform providing us with the following information:

  1. Contact information for you and any joint speaker you require for your presentation (email, phone, twitter and “preferred name” when referencing you in announcements and schedule).

  2. The Talk Title please name your talk as this will make it easier to reference it.

  3. A short bio (<6 sentences) of who you are (bio) that we are permitted to publish in case of your acceptance.

  4. A short description (<6 sentences) of your content that we are permitted to publish in case of your acceptance.

  5. A longer description of your content for our understanding of your research material and presentation format for our consideration. This could contain any papers, articles or presentation material you have created that will help us understand your content.

  6. References, if any, to other talks you have given, articles published or videos of previous presentations for our consideration.

  7. The estimated length of your talk.

  8. Has this presentation been given before somewhere?

  9. Can we record/stream your talk? (Workshops will not be streamed or recorded)

  10. Any material you need from us on stage (apart from a microphone and a place to plug in your laptop).

All material must be presented to us and our audience in English.

The Schedule

The submission deadline is:

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 31st.

Speakers to be announced from August 30th onward.

Communication

All official communication between speakers and the WICCON organizers will be handled through the CFP platform and speakers@wiccon.nl.

Compensation

Because WICCON is not-for-profit and we rely on external sponsors primarily for the venue, we cannot sponsor travel and stay for speakers. If your talk is accepted, you will have to take care of this yourself. We do provide food and drinks at the event itself.
